The Dawn Of A New Season

Well the Y2K season is here and we're looking forward to some great racing throughout the season! The Renegades will be running their own shows as well as "Challenge" and "Shootout" shows this year. At the Madera Speedway the Renegades "Challenge" the Off-set Modifieds to a series of races on this 1/3 mile track. Also joining in the fun, for the third year in a row, is the NCMA (Northern California Modified Association) who will once again run with the Renegades in the Shootout series. Shootout events are wingless events and have their own set of common rules. The fans are in for a real treat this year. "Wheel" be seeing you at the races.

First race weekend results!

Racing in the Y2K Season was kicked off at Madera Speedway on Saturday April 1st with a challenge to the off set modifieds, and again at a Shootout race at the Altamont Raceway on Sunday April 2nd with the NCMA. Saturday's event started out with Renegade Marvin Mitchell #68 and an off set modified, tangling between turns two and three. Marvin's car was too damaged to return to the race but the off set modified was lucky enough to sustain only minimal damage. Renegade Champion Don Hicks #79 led the race until one of the off set modifieds finally passed him and held onto the lead for the win. Don finished a respectable second with the second off set modified finishing third, Renegade Eddie Rhoads #78 finished fourth, and Renegade Mark Amador finished fifth after running the entire race with no brakes! Pics of that nights event will be coming soon!!!

At the Altamont Raceway on Sunday the first heat was the stage for an incredible tangle of cars. We'll have to watch the tape when it becomes available but all in all four cars tangled to make an interesting show. Renegade Joe Kuderca #23, NCMA Del Quinn #6, Renegade Don Hicks #79, and Renegade Mark Amador all got together in turn three. Renegade Mark Amador's car, as well as Renegade Don Hicks car, suffered enough damage to put them on the sidelines for the night. Unfortunately I was unable to be there that day to cover the media but will get clips up off of Alan Yordy's video as soon as it's available.

More on Madera Speedway

The Renegades were out at Madera Speedway again on Saturday the 15th to challenge the Offset Modifieds. The Offsets definitely have the advantage of track time over the Renegades but each time we go out there we're getting faster and faster. Madera Speedway has a different venue, qualifying then going straight to the Main events with no heat races or trophy dashes. This is a definite handicap as heats and dashes give the drivers a chance to dial their cars in for the main event. However the Renegades are going with the program although we have expressed the need for heat races to the track stewart. From what we hear we're not the only class expressing their want for additional track time in order to help set our cars up and put on a good show. An Offset walked away with the feature win again this weekend in a race which was thankfully void of any mishaps. Everyone loaded up their cars at the end of the night in one piece which in our opinion made them all winners. The finishing order was Offset Modified #3 driven by Roger Galleano, Offset Modified #13 Steve Fusi, Renegade Mark Amador #77, Offset Modified # 3x David Galleano, Renegade Marvin Mitchell #68, Renegade Eddie Rhoads #78, Renegade Bobby Bankson #43, and Renegade Joe Kuderca #23. Offset Modified # 32 Richard Niell did not start the race due to a broken drive line while qualifying and Renegade Kenny Rines did not finish the main due to a severe push in his car. Renegade Mark Amador had quite a time during qualifying with his front end coming completely off the ground as he hit the throttle, making it impossible to steer. By the main event he had solved most of that problem although he was still lifting his left front coming out of the turns which caused him to have to let off the throttle to bring his tire back into contact with the pavement. Renegade Bobby Bankson had fast time for the Renegades that night. This was his first race on pavement with a wing. Renegade Marvin Mitchell put on a show with his fuel injected ride, squealing tires and leaving smoke in his wake as he flew around the track. Renegade Eddie Rhoads was also fighting a push in his car that night making it difficult to stay away from that wall. Renegades Kenny Rines and Joe Kuderca ran their first winged events of the season that night. More and more cars show up at each event as drivers get their rides ready to race.

Renegades tear it up at the 99 Speedway

The Renegades were at the Stockton 99 Speedway this April 22nd to put on a show for the fans and do some serious racing! In the Trophy dash Renegade Marvin Mitchell #68 started out in front and stayed that way for the remainder of the race. His car showed everyone what kind of suds were under that hood. Renegade Kenny Rines, who was second fastet qualifier, struggled with a severe push which ended up sending him into the wall in turn four on the 2nd lap of the dash which sidelined him for the remainder of the race. After the yellow it was Renegade Joe Kuderca #23 who persistently challenged Mitchell for the lead after the green flag once again dropped. Mitchell however had other plans and held onto to the lead for the win with Kuderca hot on his trail when they passed under the green flag.

Prior to qualifying Renegade Mark Amador #77 had his rear axle snap in two during hot laps. He believes it had stress cracks which were caused at the Altamont on April 2nd when he was a victim in a multiple car tangle. A tremendous effort from many people in the pits, including other sprint drivers and Mark's crew chief Joe Antonucci, enabled him to get the car back on track for the main event. Not before Mark and Joe made a mad dash 40 miles away to his shop in Ceres to retrieve another rear end out from underneath one of his many sprint cars. While they were gone many people, including Renegade Bill Zerevich, Renegade Marvin Mitchell, and Renegade Richard Walsh worked feverishly to remove the broken rear end from his car and prep it so it would be ready for the new rear end Mark and Joe were bringing back. It's team work like this that really shows the unity and good fellowship of this club. A special thanks to all who pitched in that night!

In the main event both Renegades Bobby Bankson #43 and Mark Amador #77 started in the back of the pack and worked their way up to the front. First however Burt Siverling, who put his wing on and joined us for the night, led the race for the first few laps with Renegade Marvin Mitchell #68 hot on his tail looking for the lead. Mitchell finally saw his chance and darted in front of Siverling to take the lead. Renegade Bobby Bankson wasted no time in getting up there with Mitchell to challenge him for that front position. Coming out of turn four Mitchell and Bankson made contact which brought out the yellow for the first time. When the green flag dropped again it was Marvin Mitchell out front with Renegade Emil Anderson #8 in second and Mark Amador looking to get around Anderson for a front position. Coming around to turn one both Amador and Bankson slipped by Mitchell and both cars went around the track together each fighting for the lead. Back to turn one again both Bankson and Amador went into the turn together but only one came out. Amador's car, a little loose as it was, got into some marbles and spun out in a cloud of dust. Bankson happily left Amador behind to capture the win for the main event. Bankson also captured fast qualifying time that night and looks to be the force to reckon with this Y2K season.

Saturday May 20th at Stockton 99 Speedway

It was a blistering hot day at the speedway for this Renegade event with tempuatures reaching the triple digits. During hot laps we lost both Allen Harney #14 when the wall in turn two jumped out and grabbed him and Emil Anderson, who drives Brad Johnsons #8 car, to a broken drive shaft coupler. Renegade Joe Kuderca #23 took fast time that night, Ed Amador #76 took second fast time with a 14.874 which was slightly faster than the 14.922 his son Steve Amador #7 scored that night.

The heat race started out with Burt Siverling #77x taking the lead early on while Renegade Marvin Mitchell #68 moved through the pack to take the second position as Renegade Eddie Rhoads #78 followed close behind in third. Turn one set the stage for both Marvin Mitchell and Eddie Rhoads to make their move around Burt Siverling at the same time. Now the race was on between the #68 car and the #78. It was a tooth and nail battle between Marvin and Eddie for first place with Marvin holding on to his lead while Eddie persistantly challenged him at every turn. Eddie tried every trick in the book to sneak around that #68 car, but Marvin wasn't giving up his first place postition and held onto his lead during this exciting 10 lap race which had the crowd cheering these two on as they roared around the track. When the checkered flag came out it was Marvin Mitchell #68 in first, followed by Eddie Rhoads #78 and Mark Amador #77 in third. Fourth place went to Burt Siverling #77x with Steve Amador #7 coming in behind him for fifth. Ed Amador #76 took sixth place followed by Bill Zerevich #45 and Joe Kuderca #23.

As the cars hot lapped for the Trophy dash Joe Kuderca #23 did a nice 360 right in front of the flagman and kept on going in a cloud of tire smoke, much to the crowds delight. (video clip of this is here) Just prior to the green flag dropping Steve Amador #7 had to pull into the infield due to mechanical problems and did not start the race. When the race was on it was Ed Amador #76 with the early lead. Eddie Rhoads #78 was hot on his tail the entire race looking for that front position, but veteran driver Ed Amador wasn't giving it up. The race finished in that order with Joe Kuderca in third.

As the green flag dropped for the main event it was Joe Kuderca #23 out in front with Ed Amador #76 hot on his trail. Mark Amador #77 and Eddie Rhoads #78 battled briefly for third with Eddie coming out on top. Then in turn one Joe Kuderca and Ed Amador got together and locked wheels. Eddie Rhoads made the split second decision to go high to try and avoid them but didn't make it. Both the #76 and the #23 car pinched Eddie off as they slid out of control towards the wall. Unfortunately for Eddie his car was the cushion between Joe and Ed and that very hard wall. Ed Amador and Joe Kuderca were both able to finish the race but Eddie Rhoads #78 car suffered too much damage to continue the main. After the track was cleared and the green flag dropped once again it was Mark Amador who jumped out front for a good sized lead. He stayed out there for several laps with Marvin Mitchell #68 trying catch him. Turn one set the stage once again for a tangle, this time between Marvin and Mark as both shot towards the same piece of real estate. The brief contact sent Mark Amador into a spin bringing out the yellow flag once again. Unfortunately Marvin's car went out with a flat tire after this encounter and was unable to continue thrilling the crowd with his "burn rubber" style of racing. Once the race was back on it appeared that Joe Kuderca #23 was celebrating the fourth of July early as he sent a shower of sparks as he went around the track for two complete laps! I'll have to ask Joe what it was he ground off of his car! As Joe was making the track pretty it was Steve Amador #7 out front with his father Ed Amador #76 knocking on his back door. Mark Amador #77 battled briefly with Burt Siverling #77x for third place and got the slot. Soon the three Amador's were well ahead of the pack and having a freindly family feud for that checkered flag to wave over them first. On the white flag Ed #77 got beside his son Steve #7 between turns two and three and stayed there until they shot out of turn four. Then Ed made his move and took the checkered flag with his son's Steve and Mark behind him in that order.

The Renegade club impatiently awaits the return of 1999 Renegade Champion Don Hicks #79, Kenny Rines #15, and Bobby Bankson #43. We hope to see them at Madera on May 27th.

Saturday, May 27th at Madera Speedway

It was another hot day in the valley as the Renegades prepared to take on the Winged Modifieds at the Madera Speedway. In the heat race it was Marvin Mitchell #68 battling it out with Eddie Rhoads #78 for that first place position. It was a repeat of Stockton's show on the 20th as these two whipped around the track putting on quite a show for the fans. Marvin ended up staying out front and crossed the finish line first ahead of the winged modified #3 car. Eddie Rhoads crossed the finish line in third place with Kenny Rines #15 behind him, Don Hicks #79 in fifth, Ed Amador #76 in sixth followed by winged modified #3x and Allen Harney #14. Mark Amador #77 did not finish as his car slipped out of gear and refused to go back in due to a broken shifter cable.

In between the heat and the main Renegade drivers all gathered around Mark Amador's #77 car and pitched in to get it going again. Ed Amador #76 lent him a bearing and everyone else lent some elbow grease to get a 3 hour job done in minutes! Way to go guys!!! Many thanks to all who helped put Mark's car back together again.

In the main Mark Amador #77 and Ed Amador #76 started out with a good lead. Soon enough though it was Dr. Don Hicks #79 who passed both Amadors and gave those winged modifieds a run for their money. It was in the 19th lap that winged modified #3 finally passed Don in turn four. It was a good clean race with no yellows thrown. Lot's of passing going on during this exciting race. It was quite a show!!! Dr. Don finished second with the winged modified #3x coming in behind him. Mark Amador #77 passed under the checkered next with his father Ed Amador #76 behind him followed by Kenny Rines #15, Eddie Rhoads #78, Marvin Mitchell #68 and Allen Harney #14.

Madera Speedway, June 10th

It was a beautiful mild day in Madera for the Challenge between the Renegades and the Winged Modifieds. Fast time for the Renegades was a tie between Marvin Mitchell #68 and Mark Amador #77. Don Hicks #79 came in with the third fastest time, Burt Siverling #77x captured the fourth slot, with Joe Kuderca #23 next, followed by Eddie Rhoads #78, Bill Zarevich #45 and Allen Harney #14x. Unfortunately Kenny Rines #15 shattered his drive shaft, torque tube, and quick change during hot laps and was forced to watch the race from the sidelines that night.

The heat race started out with Eddie Rhoads #78 out front. He decided he liked it there and remained in the lead throughout the race. The pack stayed pretty close together during this 8 lap heat. Dr. Don Hicks #79 tried his best to catch and pass Fast Eddie, but the #78 car had other plans for the evening and wasn't giving up his lead. No yellows were thrown and the race went smoothly and quickly. The finish was Eddie Rhoads #78 in first, Don Hicks #79 in second, Winged Modified #3 car in third, Mark Amador #77 in fourth, followed by Winged Modified #3x, Burt Siverling #77x, Joe Kuderca #23, Allen Harney 14x, and Bill Zarevich #45. Marvin Mitchell #68 did not finish after pulling into the infield.

During the main it was Mark Amador #77 who worked his way quickly from the outside third row to the front position and for 19 laps held that lead with room to spare. His car was definitely hooking up that evening and Eddie Rhoads #78 car showed it was also running well as he chased the #77 car around the track to no avail. Don Hicks #79 held the third position throughout these laps in the race. During this time the Winged Modifieds were trying to work their way up front. Then in lap 20, coming out of turn 4, Mark Amador #77 got loose and backed off the throttle. Winged modified #3 took that opportunity to try and get around Mark. Upon seeing the Modified make it's move, Mark punched it again, unfortunately too soon after getting loose. His car unloaded on him and sent him crashing into the wall. He hit the wall hard enough to get his bell rung but good. His car caught on fire momentarily and he was pulled from the wreckage dazed and injured. Needless to say his car is totalled and now he will be forced to get his new car completed and on the track! I am happy to report that although he feels extremely bruised and sore he is Ok. After the wreck was cleared from the track the green flag dropped once again for the five remaining laps, both Winged Modified cars finally got out in front of the pack and stayed there for first and second postition. Don Hicks #79 tried taking the lead but was unable to get around the Winged Modifieds. Marvin Mitchell #68 and Eddie Rhoads #78 got together and Eddie was unable to finish. The final standing was Winged Modified #3, Winged Modified #3x, Don Hicks #79, Marvin Mitchell #68, Joe Kuderca #23, Burt Siverling #77x, Bill Zerevich #45 and Allen Harney #14x.

Stockton 99 Speedway June 17th, 2000

The heat wave broke in the Valley for a beautiful day on Saturday June 17th. The off set modifieds from Madera Speedway came and joined the Renegades at the track for some serious racing. Ed Amador #76 captured fast time for the Renegades that night. Marvin Mitchell #68 had second fastest time and Bobby Bankson #43 captured the third spot.

In the first heat it was Eddie Rhoads #78 who jumped out for the early lead, followed by Bobby Bankson #43 with Allen Harney #14 in third. Soon enough though Ed Amador #76 snatched the number three spot from the #14 car. The race went smoothly with no yellows or incidents. The finish was Eddie Rhoads#78, Bobby Bankson #43, Ed Amador#76, Kenny Rines #15, and Allen Harney #14.

In the second heat Steve Amador #7 took the front position only to lose it to Joe Kuderca #23 who jumped out for a large lead. Joe stayed way out in front to win followed by Off set modified #3 Roger Galleano, Marvin Mitchell #68, Off set modified #3x David Galleano, Burt Siverling #77x, and Steve Amador #7 who spun out while coming out of turn four on the last lap.

The trophy dash found Marvin Mitchell #68 and Bobby Bankson #43 fighting for the lead. While Marvin and Bobby were entertaining themselves, Ed Amador #76, pulled a move that spoke volumes about having a lot of track time. In perhaps one of the most well calculated (and definitely sneaky) passes I have ever had the pleasure to witness, Ed snuck around both Marvin and Bobby on the extreme inside between turns one and two. Marvin and Bobby never knew what hit them as they momentarily raced three abreast inbetween the turns. Ed's slick move earned him the front spot and he decided he liked it there, so there he stayed. The finish was Ed Amador #76, Bobby Bankson #43, Off set modified Roger Galleano #3, and Marvin Mitchell #68 who did not finish. Marvin pulled off the track early in the race due to mechanical problems.

In the main, the surprise star was Kenny Rines #15 who led the race for 10 out of 25 laps. Kenny's been trying to get the bugs worked out of his steering the past few races and it looks like he's finally got the problem licked. His black and flourescent orange #15 car streaked around the track with ease, at times with quite a lead on the rest of the pack. As Eddie Rhoads #78 tried chasing him down, Joe Kuderca #23 was right on Eddie's tail. Coming into turn four, Eddie and Joe got together and Joe's #23 car ended up in the wall. Unfortunately Joe Kuderca was unable to continue the race due to front end damage. It was lap 11 when Eddie Rhoads #78 finally overtook Kenny Rines #15 for the lead. By now Off set modified Roger Galleano #3 had moved his way up to the 3rd position which put him slightly ahead of Ed Amador #76 and Bobby Bankson #43, who was in the fifth position. No sooner had Off set modified Roger Galleano #3 moved into the second position that his rear axle broke and he went crashing into the wall just beyond the flag man. He was towed off the track, sans a left rear wheel, unable to continue. After the green flag dropped, Eddie Rhoads #78 got out front. I mean way out front. This guy was untouchable and held onto the lead for the remainder of the race. The official finish was Eddie Rhoads #78, Ed Amador #76, Bobby Bankson #43, Marvin Mitchell #68, Offset modified David Galleano #3x, Steve Amador #7, and Burt Siverling 77. Both Allen Harney #14 and Kenny Rines #15 were unable to finish the race due to mechanical problems. Mark Amador #77 was sidelined for the night due to injuries sustained in the Madera Speedway Race on June 10th. Instead of racing he officiated, pushed off cars, and drove the pace car. When he wasn't running around the track in the pace car or in the pits in the push jeep, he was hobbling around with a cane. Mark should be back on the track soon though.

Madera Speedway Aug. 5, 2000

When the green flag dropped for the heat race it was #14x Allen Harney out front. Super Winged Modified #88 Marty Wagner jumped out to take the lead away from Allen soon enough though. Eddie Rhoads #78 was chasing Allen down for the 8 lap heat but couldn't catch the yellow and black #14 car. Both Roger and David Galleano driving cars #3 and 3x respectively couldn't get around Eddie Rhoads and finished behind him. Mark Amador #77 hit the track in his new car after totalling his old car on this same track in June. Working the bugs out Mark was battling a left front tire that continued to want to lift off the ground throughout the race. The finish was #88 Super Winged Modified Marty Wagner, #14x Allen Harney, #3 Roger Galleano, #3x David Galleano, #77 Mark Amador, #77x Burt Siverling. Due to the time clock malfunctioning that night there was no qualifying. Prior to the race #3 James Brown was hot lapping and threw a rod in his engine. We hope to see James out there again soon!

In the main it was Burt Siverling #77x who jumped out for the early lead. As everyone passed the flag man for the first lap Allen Harney #14 spun out and brought out the yellow. After the green flag dropped again Eddie Rhoads #78 wasted no time in getting right out front and stayed there leaving most of the pack behind. Roger and David Galleano set their sites on the front and chased Eddie down in their Winged Modifieds. Roger was the only one successful in getting in front of Eddie that night. He and Eddie Rhoads left the rest of the pack behind and crossed the finish line well ahead of the pack. The final standing was Winged Modified #3 Roger Galleano, #78 Eddie Rhoads, Winged Modified #3x David Galleano, #77 Mark Amador, #77x Burt Siverling, #14 Allen Harney. Winged Modified #88 Marty Wagner did not finish the race due to mechanical problems.

Renegade and NCMA Shoot Out at Altamont Raceway August 12, 2000

The weather cooperating nicely on race day for the Shoot Out between the Renegades and the NCMA (Northern California Modified Association). Unfortunately we lost a couple of engines that day. The first one to go was Renegade Joe Kuderca #23 who lost a ring during hot laps and had to park his ride for the evening.

Renegade Kenny Rines set fast time that night in his 15x car with NCMA Ed Amador #76 in second, NCMA Scott Holloway #41 in third, and Renegade Eddie Rhoads #78 in fourth. This set the stage for the Trophy Dash.

In the first heat it was NCMA Burt Siverling #77 out front for the lead. NCMA Bobby Bankson #43 had the number two slot followed by Renegade Kenny Rines #15x, NCMA Scott Holloway #41, and NCMA Jim Janssen #9. Meanwhile Renegade Don Hicks #79 was quickly working his way through the pack. By lap four Renegade Don Hicks #79 had the lead and stayed there. He was followed by NCMA Bobby Bankson #43, Renegade Kenny Rines #15x , Scott Holloway #41, NCMA Burt Siverling #77, and NCMA Jim Jannsen #9 for the finish.

In the second Heat Renegade Eddie Rhoads #78 jumped out front for the early lead with NCMA Ed Amador #76 hot on his trail in the second position. NCMA Del Quin #6 was in third followed by NCMA Mike Johnson #8, Renegade Allen Harney #14x, and Renegade Mark Amador #77x. (During Shoot Out events Mark runs an x) NCMA Ed Amador #76 tried in vain to get around Renegade Eddie Rhoads #78, but Eddie wasn't budging. Halfway through the race Mark Amador threw a rod and destroyed his crank. A puff of smoke, a burst of flames, and the night was over for the #77x Renegade car. The final results were Renegade Eddie Rhoads #78, NCMA Ed Amador #76, NCMA Del Quinn #6, Renegade Allen Harney #14x, NCMA Mike Johnson #8, and Renegade Mark Amador #77x with a DNF.

In the trophy dash it was NCMA Scott Holloway #41 and Renegade Eddie Rhoads #78 searching for that number one postion. Scott Holloway got the lead and stayed there to win the dash. The finish was NCMA Scott Holloway #41, Renegade Eddie Rhoads #78, Renegade Kenny Rines #15x, and NCMA Ed Amador #76.

In the main it was NCMA Mike Johnson #8 who took the lead early on. Soon enough though Renegade Don Hicks #79 had taken that front position away. Renegade Eddie Rhoads #78 worked himself into the number two position with NCMA Bobby Bankson #43 in third. A clean race with no incidents which reportedly took all of seven minutes! The final standing was, Renegade Don Hicks #79, Renegade Eddie Rhoads #78, NCMA Bobby Bankson #43, NCMA Ed Amador #76, NCMA Scott Holloway #41, NCMA Mike Johnson #8, Renegade Kenny Rines #15, NCMA Burt Siverling #77, Renegade Allen Harney #14x, NCMA Jim Jannsen #9, and NCMA Del Quinn #6.

Altamont Raceway 8/26/00

It was a mild day at the Altamont, surprisingly windless for the windiest place in California. Renegade Kenny Rines #15x captured fast time that night ahead of the rest of the pack. Kenny is certainly becoming a force to reckon with on the track this Y2K season!

In the first heat as the cars paced around the track we lost both NCMA Del Quinn #6 to a broken fuel line and Renegade Mark Amador #77x due to a 125 lb. weight coming loose and being dragged around the track. Both cars were ready for the main long before it began however neither made it back in time to compete in the heat. This left four cars in heat number 1 to compete for the win. As the green flag dropped it was NCMA Mike Johnson #8 who jumped out for the lead ahead of NCMA Burt Siverling #77, followed by Renegade Bill Zarevich #45 and Renegade Scott Clough #71x. For 8 laps they held these postitions and finished in this same order.

In the second heat it was Renegade Kenny Rines #15x who jumped out for the early lead. Kenny liked it there and held that postition for 7 out of the 8 lap heat. However throughout the race Kenny had NCMA Ed Amador #76 breathing down his neck vying for that front position. Meanwhile NCMA Bobby Bankson #43 and Renegade Don Hicks #79 were both trying to beat Kenny out of the lead as well. During the last lap of the race both NCMA Bobby Bankson #43 and Renegade Don Hicks #79 snuck in front of Renegade Kenny Rines #15x. The finish was NCMA Bobby Bankson #43, Renegade Don Hicks #79, Renegade Kenny Rines #15x, NCMA Ed Amador #76, NCMA Steve Amador #75, NCMA Scott Holloway #41 and Renegade Mike McCreary #71.

In the trophy dash the players were NCMA Scott Holloway #41, NCMA Bobby Bankson #43, NCMA Ed Amador #76, and Renegade Don Hicks #79. The race went smoothly with NCMA Scott Holloway #41 taking the lead and staying there. NCMA Bobby Bankson #43 and Renegade Don Hicks #79 spent most of the race two abreast around the track trying to take away Scott's front position to no avail. In turn 4 of lap 4 Renegade Don Hicks finally snuck ahead of NCMA Bobby Bankson to capture the second position. The final finish was #41, #79, #43, and #76.

In the main it was Renegade Kenny Rines #15x who once again pulled out for the early lead. While the rest of the pack caught up to him in the corners he was definitely pulling away from everyone else on the straight aways in his brightly painted car. Six laps later however Renegade "Dr. Don Hicks" #79 snatched the lead away from Kenny Rines and remained there for the win. The finish was Renegade Don Hicks #79, NCMA Scott Holloway #41, NCMA Bobby Bankson #43, Renegade Mike McCreary #71, Renegade Bill Zarevich #45, NCMA Mike Johnson #8, NCMA Ed Amador #76, NCMA Burt Siverling #77, NCMA Steve Amador #75, and Renegade Scott Clough #71x. Three cars did not finish the race due to mechanical problems, Renegade Kenny Rines #15x, Renegade Mark Amador #77 (who completely lost his brakes), and NCMA Del Quinn #6.

Shoot Out September 17, 2000

I was unable to attend this race so I will be listing the finishing orders only. Renegade Don Hicks #79 captured fast qualifying time as well as winning the Trophy Dash. In the Dash second place went to NCMA Ed Amador #76, followed by NCMA Scott Holloway #41, and NCMA Bobby Bankson #43.

In the first heat the winner was NCMA Mike Johnson #8, followed by Renegade Bill Zarevich #45, NCMA Burt Siverling #77, NCMA Del Quinn #6, NCMA Josh Branco #00, and NCMA Jim Jannsen #9.

In the second heat it was Renegade Kenny Rines #15x for the win followed by, NCMA Bobby Bankson #43, NCMA Ed Amador #76, Renegade Don Hicks #79, NCMA Steve Amador #76x, and NCMA Scott Holloway #41.

In the main it was Renegade Kenny Rines #15x for the win followed by, Renegade Don Hicks #79, Renegade Mark Amador #77x, NCMA Steve Amador #76x, NCMA Ed Amador #76, NCMA Burt Siverling #77, NCMA Mike Johnson #8, NCMA Scott Holloway #41, NCMA Jim Jannsen #9, NCMA Josh Branco #00, Renegade Bill Zarevich #45, Renegade Allen Harney #14x, and Renegade Jerry Carr #6x.

"For The Fans"

On occasion the Renegades are able to treat the fans to autographs and gifts in between their events on race night. The kids have a great time meeting the drivers and leave with some lasting momentos of their night at the races. On August 28th 1999 at the Altamont Raceway in California, the Renegades and NCMA members jumped in the Official Renegade Pace Truck and headed to the stands. This is just one of many times they have done t his. They got out bearing gifts and ready to sign lots of autographs. Among the things the fans were treated to were lollipops, antenna balls, driver trading cards, refridgerator magnets, coasters, race flags, and of course, lots of autographs! I was able to get some snap shots scanned of just some of the drivers who participated in this event. To see the photos click here.

More, "For The Fans"

The Renegades and the NCMA once again rode up to the fans on Saturday October 16th at the Silver State Raceway. They showed up riding in the Official Renegade Pace truck and Mark Amador's Westport Tow Slideback tow truck. This time they drove around the track from the pits to the flagman and grabbed hand fulls of goodies. Mark Amador stood on the flagman's podium tossing handfuls of candy and Union 76 antenna balls into the delighted crowd. Drivers spread out along the fence line tossing more of these treats to the laughing fans who were having fun trying to get a drivers attention for an aimed toss. Kids giggled and laughed as they caught treats in mid-air and scrambled around like an Easter egg hunt grabbing rolling Union 76 antenna balls in front of the fence! On cue from the announcer who prepped the crowd by saying "Ok, 1....2......3...." The crowd and announcer chanted in unison, "THANK YOU!!!" It was a lot of fun and you can be sure that the drivers will continue this trend in Y2K. Look for us!

"Even more, For the Fans"

Between races at the Stockton Speedway May 20th the Renegades headed out into the stands once again to sign autographs and throw a box full of Union 76 antenna balls into the crowd. Three lucky winners received a Renegade T-Shirt when they caught specially marked Union 76 balls. One lucky winner received a free movie pass to the Brenden Movie Theatres for catching a specially signed ball by Trophy Dash winner Ed Amador #76. Congratulations to all the winners, hope to see you at the track next time!
