The Open Wheel Racing List
What is an E-mail list?
An e-mail list works by subscribing to a service that collects and generates e-mails or compilations of e-mails to individual members. The service that this e-mail list is on, is located at www.onelist.com and is totally free of charge.
It works like this, once you subscribe to the service and are approved by the moderator (Mark Amador, Renegade Club President) you will begin recieving e-mails from other members of the list. Let's say you want to start a conversation about race results. You compose a new e-mail and address it to Openwheelracing@onelist.com After you send it off it will immediately be distributed to every subscribing member of the list including yourself. You'll notice when you recieve e-mails from the list, that in the subject line, the subject you typed in will be preceeded by (Openwheelracing). This is normal and automatically generated by the Onelist service. To reply to any e-mail generated by another list member just hit your "reply to sender" button on your e-mail program and your response will automatically be sent to the list as well. Keep in mind everything you send to the list is viewable by all members. If you wish to have a private conversation with someone you'll need to address it to their private e-mail address.
What's the difference between individual e-mails and Digest version?
When you subscribe to the list you have three choices.
1. Recieve individual e-mails.
2. Recieve a daily digest.
3. Recieve no e-mails and read the archives from the web site.
Individual e-mails are pretty self explanatory. Everytime someone sends something to the Openwheelracing@onelist.com address you'll recieve a copy of it in your E-mail programs' Inbox.
Daily digest means that all e-mails generated to the list that day will be sent to you in one e-mail message. Messages will follow each other on the digest in the order they were recieved by the Onelist server. You may respond to e-mails using the digest version. However PLEASE delete all typing that does not concern the post you are responding to and change the subject line accordingly!!
The no mail option means you will not recieve e-mails in your Inbox but instead prefer to visit the web site at Onelist and read the e-mails from there.
Remember: All e-mails are kept in an archive FOREVER!! So be careful before you type in the words, "I never said that." No sooner than you send that off to the list someone will dig up an old post of yours and quote it for you! Probably including all headers, dates, times, etc. Nothing less tasty than a foot in your mouth. :^D
Rules
1.This list is safe for children and we ask that all list members please keep their e-mail messages clean.
2. Please do not send e-mail to the list using HTML but rather Plain Text. If you are unsure of how to use this setting e-mail the moderator and he will help you. Attachments are OK. No midi files or stationary please. Some people are set to use plain text and those subscribing to digest version will recieve everything in plain text. That means these people will not hear your neat midi tune or see your cool animated gif. Instead they will see a lot of garbage characters which are annoying and almost impossible to read messages through!
3. No Flame Wars!! We understand that some subjects can get people a little hot under the collar and we expect some bickering. However if it gets out of hand the thread may be closed by the moderator. If this occurs a request will be sent to the list to please discontinue the thread.
4. No SPAM!!! SPAMMERS will be unceremoniously removed from the list. This includes but is not limited to:
1. Relentless posts containing nothing but an advertisement for a product or service. Please limit commercial posts to one a week.
2. Sending "for sale" posts. If you have parts for sale we have a classified section on our web site that you may submit your request to. E-mail the Webmaster with the information.
3. Chain letters.
4. Pyramid schemes.
5. "Vote for my site" posts. Please limit your pleas for contest votes to one a week.
Hint: Sig files are free to be as commercial as you'd like! Please limit your sig file to 8 lines or less.
Results
For rule infractions a private e-mail will be sent asking that the member abide by the rules. A second request for the same infraction will result in the member being set to "no mail" for a few days. The person being set to "no mail" will recieve an e-mail from the moderator informing them of this action. This means that the member will be able to recieve e-mails from the list but not respond until the moderator sets their membership status back to "full" again. A third infraction may result in temporary or permanent removal from the list. Again an e-mail from the moderator informing them of the action will be sent in this unlikely event.
Above all things this list is for people who enjoy Open Wheel Racing to be able to share ideas and information with others who have the same interests. We want everyone to have fun! If you wish to join, use the the form below.
